Day 4 -- Yellowstone

This was the first hotel that was good; all the rest were ok, but there was something wrong with them, either the AC didn't work, or it was a smoking room, or something, but last night we stayed in a suite at Cody. The rooms were brand new and it was great. Other than Sarah and Lily getting a little cold during the night, I think everyone slept well.

I got a call from work as soon as I woke up, the main computer at the scalehouse was down, I talked to TJ and Mack and we devised a plan to get it working (I think it finally got fixed after lunch).

We finally made it into Yellowstone today. The drive was gorgeous, and everyone seemed impressed so far. We got stuck in traffic in the Hayden Valley as a herd of Buffalo (Bison to the yankees) crossed the road. We had a picnic lunch there and watched the Buffalo.

We were disappointed because we only saw a few cow elk as we came in; no bulls yet, but we'll keep looking.

We were amazed at how much the water was up. All of the major rivers in the park were nearly out of their banks. We decided that now would be a great time to go see the falls. We drove out to Artist Point and saw the Lower Falls. It was spectacuar. I don't know that I've ever seen so much water going over them. After a few pictures we were off to our Cabin.

Afer checking in at the cabin and stretching our legs around the town (West Yellowstone, MT), the girls and I went back into the park looking for late evening wildlife. We didn't see much, so we went on back to the brink of the Upper and Lower Falls. The hike was a little long to the brink of the lower falls, but well worth it. It literally takes your breath away to stand at the top of the falls and look down... There is a LOT of power there.

As we drove back to the cabin, we came accross a small heard of elk. It was getting dark, so we couldn't get many pictures.

Everyone was ready for bed when we got back to the cabin.
